Three Amherst Students Participate in Massachusetts Geography Bee

Congratulations to our local geography experts: SolomonRueschemeyer-Bailey, Jonathan Hosea, and Gareth Barr,  who participatedin the Massachusetts Geography Bee, open to only 100 students statewide. The three students had emerged as their school champions in thisyear's school level GeoBees, held in January.  Solomon is in 6th gradeat Wildwood, Jonathan is in 6th grade at Fort River, and Gareth is a 7thgrader at ARMS. Project Backpack and Safe Seats for Kids Show Community Spirt of Giving and Caring

The Office of the Superintendent would like to thank our communitypartners and many individuals who contributed so generously to ProjectBackpack and Safe Seats for Kids.   Nearly 400 backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplieswere collected through this community outreach initiative.  On August16 and 17, over 268 backpacks were distributed to income-eligiblestudents.  In addition, 40 car seats were installed by officers fromAmherst Police Department, UMASS Police Department, Holyoke FireDepartment and Springfield Safe Seats.
