The Department is reviewing severalprograms during their visits in order to use Department and schoolstaff’s time most efficiently and to encourage strong connections amongthe programs.
The Department’s Coordinated Program Review will address the Amherst,Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional School District’s special educationprogram. After reviewing school district procedures, a Department teamwill make its onsite visits, during which it will review individualstudent records, interview administrators, teachers and paraprofessionalstaff, survey parents and observe instructional spaces. After theonsite visits it will prepare a report for the superintendent and schoolcommittee with detailed findings for each program.

Where requirements are found notimplemented or only partially implemented, the district must propose tothe Department corrective action to bring those areas into compliancewith statutes and regulations. Districts and schools are encouraged toincorporate the corrective action into their district and schoolimprovement plans and professional development plan. The school districtwill be provided with technical assistance from the Department indeveloping a corrective action plan.
