The School Committee is committed to having a smoke and tobacco free environment for all members of the school community; therefore, all forms of tobacco use are prohibited on all District property.
The use of any tobacco products by staff, students, and members of the public is prohibited in all school buildings, on school grounds, and on schoolbuses.Use of tobacco products is also prohibited in all other vehicles used in athletic events, field trips, club outings, etc. In addition,tobacco use by students is banned at all school-sponsored events, even when this use does not take place on school grounds.
Student possession, use, or distribution of any tobacco products is prohibited. Students violating this policy will be subject to disciplinary procedures and will be provided with additional educational material and counseling. Programs for prevention, intervention, and referral are encouraged, as are educational programs to supplement the District’s health curriculum.
Students should be aware that the penalties for violation of this tobacco policy, as they affect athletic participation as mandated by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, may be lengthier than penalties imposed by the school.
