The School Committees shall annually evaluate the Superintendent in order to accomplish the following:
- to clarify the Superintendent’s role in the school system as seen by the School Committees
- to assist in improving the administrative skills and performance of the Superintendent
- to improve working relationships between the Superintendent and the School Committees
As part of the evaluation process, the School Committees will develop with the Superintendent a set of written performance goals for each year as a focus for the Superintendent’s major attention. Included will be indicators and a specific time frame for each goal that will provide a demonstration of the accomplishment of the intentions of each goal.The evaluation of the Superintendent’s achievement of the stated goals will be both periodically and annually reviewed in open session by the Committees with the Superintendent.
In addition, the Committee and Superintendent may agree on an additional annual evaluation format that will provide a more general and overall evaluation of the Superintendent’s performance. The results of this evaluation will also be shared with the Superintendent in an open session for this purpose in accordance with the Open Meeting Law,Chapter 39, of Mass. State law.
