Policy BEDA: Notification of Meetings

Home 5 Policy BEDA: Notification of Meetings

As required by law, a minimum of 48 hours advance notice, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, will be given for any meeting of the School Committee, including all subcommittee meetings.  The notice for each meeting will contain the date, time, and place of the meeting and will include the agenda or a listing of topics that the Chair reasonably anticipates will be discussed at the meeting.  Notice will be filed with the Town Clerk and posted as required by the Open Meeting Law.  (MGL 30A)  Notification of regular meetings, notification of a change in a regular meeting time or place, and notification of a special meeting will be filed with the Town Clerk at least 48 hours in advance,as required by law.

The only exception permitted to the requirement for posting the meeting 48 hours in advance of the meeting is in case of emergency, which the law defines as “a sudden, generally unexpected occurrence or set of circumstances demanding immediate action.”

Notification of each Regional School Committee meeting will be filed with the Town Clerks of all member towns at least 48 hours in advance.

An executive session of the School Committee must first convene in an open session meeting of the School Committee for which due notice has been given, except in case of emergency.  (See Policy BEC .)

A schedule of the planned regular meetings of the School Committee for the upcoming months will be published periodically and posted online to inform the public about the dates, times, and places of the upcoming regular meetings of the School Committee.
