On Friday, January 25, all students and staff at ARMS participated in an assembly to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Student speeches and artwork, and musical performances by teachers Michael Lawrence-Riddell and Marcia Gomes encouraged all in attendance to greater unity and empathy.

This event was organized by the teachers of the ARMS Social Studies Department.

On Saturday, January 19th, the 35th Annual MLK Community Breakfast was held at ARMS. It was a wonderful event with music, storytelling, and community celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We are so pleased to announce that ARHS senior, Karrington Dowe, was recognized at the breakfast and awarded the MLK Scholarship. Amherst Regional Middle School is once again hosting students from Kanegasaki, Japan , March 20th -24th,2019. Host families are needed for this visit. Students from Kanegasaki have been coming to Amherst for over 25 years. This cultural exchange program has been the core of the long-standing relationship that has linked our two sister cities. If your family is interested in hosting, please pick up an application from Ms. Boyd, Guidance Counselor or email boydd@arps.org.

7th grade English Language Arts students gathered in the ARMS Library to present and share poetry they had written.  Many students volunteered to recite their poems to the students in their grade.  After the oral presentations, students read print and electronic poems displayed around the library. A scavenger hunt added to the fun as students recorded favorite first or last lines and examples of poetic devices such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, simile, and metaphor found in their classmates' poems.
