G1: Teacher Work Day/ Working Hours

Home 5 G1: Teacher Work Day/ Working Hours

Category G: Personnel

The Teacher work day will be determined by the negotiated agreement between the School Committee and the Amherst-Pelham Education Association (APEA).

The underlying understanding is that “the teacher, as a member of a professional team, is an appropriate judge as to when his or her professional responsibilities have been completed.  A working day for teachers is defined as that part of a day during which all teachers are expected to be present for duty.”

As noted in the contract, full-time teachers are expected to be present for duty in schools for a full work day, exclusive of lunch time, as part of fulfilling their contractual expectations, and any other agreements made with the School Committees on work day related issues. Part-time teachers will be expected to be present for duty in accordance with the FTE associated with their salary notification, exclusive of lunch time, if applicable, as part of fulfilling their contractual expectations and any other agreements made with the School Committees on work day related issues. Teachers with other arrangements will be required to adhere to hours and attendance consistent with their teaching contract with the district.

All full-time and part-time teachers are expected to attend all regularly scheduled department meetings, building staff meetings and parent nights.  All full-time and part-time staff will be required to participate in curriculum days and teacher work days; part-time teachers will be expected to participate only to the proportion of the day that matches their teaching contract.

Documentation of Working Time

Work hours for each building shall be in compliance with the work day established at the building level and consistent with readiness for the established school hours.
