For the past 18 years, Mildred Martínez has been a dedicated member of the Amherst Public Schools, evolving from her start in the S.S.O. department to her current role as Elementary School Registrar in Student and Family Engagement. Mildred’s position has allowed her to connect with families, learn about different cultures, and create a strong sense of community. Colleagues praise her warmth, noting how she “welcomes everyone” and is always ready to support students and their families with care.
Mildred finds inspiration in the diversity of her work, as she strives to support students in both big and small ways. “Sometimes, a student needs a snack, a listening ear, or a bit of encouragement on a tough day,” she says. Known as the “office grandma” to many students, she loves being someone they feel comfortable turning to for support. These small, meaningful moments, when students feel truly seen and valued, are what makes her work so rewarding.
Mildred’s commitment extends beyond personal connections to her passion for data-driven support. She combines her data skills with her personal approach, ensuring that resources reach students who need them most. From tracking attendance to analyzing trends, Mildred works behind the scenes to keep the focus on student success.
For Mildred, the best part of her role is the energy and joy that students bring to her day. “It’s the connections I’ve made and the trust I’ve built with students and their families that keep me inspired,” she shares. Working in a community that values diversity and inclusivity gives her a deep sense of purpose and pride, making her an invaluable member of the ARPS team.
