The building is made from brick which came from the South Amherst brick yard and the wing is made of wood. 80,000 bricks were used. This gave it the proportion of an old Connecticut valley house.
The plans for the library were made by Karl Putnam of Northampton.
A large garden is outside the front door. There are benches there. A playground with swings, a jungle gym, and monkey bars is on the back lawn.
