~ Clubs and Other Organizations~

Past

In 1930 there were three main clubs that were held at the Munson Library. One of them was the Double or Nothing Club, a group of the younger married couples that met once a month in the library section of the building. There were both social and educational programs for them, and they used the refectory hall for refreshments. Another one of the groups was the Women's Monthly Club. They used the library for meetings and the main auditorium for a guest night. The last club that was held in 1930 was the Grange Organization. It held 22 meetings a year in the auditorium. They also held suppers in the basement dinning room occasionally. There were dances a few Wednesdays a month in the auditorium with refreshments in the dining room.

Present

The only club that is still held today is the Summer Reading Club. During the summer, kids under 12 years of age get two pieces of paper. One explains how the club works and the other page is full of lines. What you do is you read over the summer and write down the names and authors of the books that you read on the piece of paper with lines. At the end of the summer you turn in the list of books to the librarian. If you read a certain number of books, like 10, you will receive a book that the librarians think will challenge and interest you. If you read more than 20 books you will receive a small toy along with the book for your prize.
