Policy KCB: Community Involvement in Decision Making

The School Committees endorse the concept that community participationin the affairs of the schools is essential if the school system and thecommunity are to maintain mutual confidence and respect and to worktogether to improve the quality of education for students. Theytherefore intend to exert every effort to identify the desires of thecommunity and to be responsive, through its actions, to those desires.

All citizens will be encouraged to express ideas, concerns, andjudgements about the schools to the school administration, to the staff,to any appointed advisory bodies, and to the Committee.

Residents will be encouraged to assume an active role in schoolaffairs. From time to time these people may be invited by the Committeeto act as advisers either individually or in groups.

The Committees and the staff will consider the advice they receive fromindividuals and community groups interested in the schools, particularly from those individuals and groups they have invited toadvise them regarding specific problems. The Committees and staff willuse their best judgement in arriving at decisions.
