Policy BGD: Review of Administrative Regulations

It is expected that the Superintendent and administrative staff willneed to issue regulations implementing policies of the School Committee. Many of these will be routine from year to year; others will arise inspecial circumstances; some will be drawn up under specific directionsfrom the Committee.

The School Committee will be kept informed of new regulations and major changes in regulations.

Ordinarily, the School Committee will not vote on regulationsdeveloped by the Superintendent and administrative staff, except asrequired by state law or in cases when strong community attitudes, orpossible student or staff reaction, make it necessary or advisable for aregulation to have the School Committee’s advance approval.

The School Committee may review the regulations developed for theschool system by the Superintendent and administrative staff wheneverthey appear inconsistent with policy, goals, or objectives of theDistrict, but the School Committee will revise or veto such regulationsonly when, in the Committee’s judgment, they are inconsistent withpolicies adopted by the Committee.
