At the first regular meeting following the annual town election, theSchool Committee will elect annually a chair and vice-chair from itsmembership. The Committee will also elect a secretary who need not be amember of the Committee.
The Superintendent will be acting chair for the organizationalmeeting until the Chair is elected. Nominations for chair will be madeby members of the Committee. A majority of the members of the SchoolCommittee constitutes a quorum. The chair will be elected by majorityvote of the members present. If no nominee receives a majority vote,the election will be declared null and void, and nominations will bereopened. Upon election, the Chair will preside and will call forelection of vice chair and secretary in that order. The procedure usedfor their election will be the same as for electing the chair.
Any vacancy among the officers occurring between organizationalmeetings will be filled by a member elected by the School Committee. Theelection will be conducted as described above.

Allfive Amherst School Committee members serve on the Regional SchoolCommittee. Each selected member will become a member of the RegionalSchool Committee on the day of his/her selection, and he/she will servefor the duration of the member’s term on the local School Committee, oruntil a successor has been selected.
